The Miami Dolphins starting squad looked very sloppy when they faced off against the Chicago Bears last night in Canton. The lone bright spot was the efficiency of co-starting quarterback Gus Frerotte.

The most glaring weakness that I saw was in the trenches. Our defensive front got very little pressure on Chicago Bears quarterback Rex Grossman. They were also allowing runners to break through the line of scrimmage and get to the outside into the open field. On the flip side, the Miami Dolphins offensive line, while steady at times, allowed too much pressure on our quarterbacks and did not open up any running lanes for Lamar Gordon or Ricky Williams.

Moving on the quarterback play, I though that A.J. Feeley showed flashes of brilliance. He made several sharp first down throws and should have connected with Derrius Thompson for a long throw, but as is often the case, Thompson could not make the grab even though the ball hit his hands. Feeley got banged up after taking a clean hit from Brian Urlacher, but he ended up posting the most important stat of all...0 turnovers.

Gus Frerotte was very impressive in his first game action with the Miami Dolphins. He was 11 of 17 for 143 yards and a touchdown. He looked very comfortable in the pocket and threw a nice ball more often than not.

Luckily for Dolfans, there are four more preseason games that can be used to sharpen up on execution. The team better improve considerably, because the product that the Dolphins put on the field last night will not win them many NFL games.
