The contract talks between the Miami Dolphins and first-round pick, Ronnie Brown, are coming along slowly, but surely. The Dolphins had increased their offer of guaranteed money from $19 million to $19.5 million, but will not go beyond that. Although Ronnie Brown and agent Todd France were hoping for guarantees around $20 million, it seems that they will be willing to take the Dolphins offer. The reason for the change of heart is that Miami is offering a five-year contract instead of the six-year deal the Dolphins were hoping for.

One of the remaining hurdles that remain is the amount of money that Ronnie Brown can make over the length of the five-year contract. The Miami Dolphins haven't offered any incentives or escalators that agent Todd France considers worthy of the #2 selection. France is hoping to get similar incentives that #5 pick, ‘Cadillac' Williams, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If Williams plays in 35 percent of the downs this year or in 45 percent in any of the four following seasons, he will receive a $2 million bonus.

Whether the Miami Dolphins or agent Todd France give in or not, only time will tell. In the mean time, Ronnie Brown has been working out on his own to make sure that he stays in the best shape possible until the contract is finished. Hopefully, that will be sooner rather than later.
