Duke Blue Devils quarterback Thaddeus Lewis and cornerback Leon Wright were issued citations for underage possession of alcohol early Wednesday morning in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Although both players registered lower than the legal limit on breathalyzers -- both were .03 versus the legal limit of .08 -- the two are just 20 years old.

Both amassed good numbers last season as juniors: Wright ended 2007 with 67 tackles, three picks and a fumble recovery. Lewis, the returning starting quarterback, threw for 2,430 yards and 21 scores against 10 interceptions.

COMMENTARY: As if Duke didn’t have enough on-field troubles as it is, now there are a couple of new off-field ones. This follows the suspension and subsequent reinstatement of offensive tackle Cameron Goldberg, who violated team rules back in April. Specifically regarding Lewis, he was one of the ACC’s top quarterbacks last season and is believed to be new coach David Cutcliffe’s No. 1 project heading into 2008.
