Hillside High (Durham, N.C.) quarterback Corey Gattis gave his solid verbal to Duke on Sunday for the ’09 class.

Last season the 5-foot-11, 158-pound dual-threat gunslinger completed over 63 percent of his 250 passes for 3,000-plus yards and 28 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. On the ground Gattis scampered for 350 yards and two scores on 70 carries. Recruiting Web site Rivals reports Gattis runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds.

Gattis chose Durham over Ohio. Scottie Montgomery is credited as the primary.

COMMENTARY: Only two days after getting a commitment from four-star defensive tackle John Drew, coach David Cutcliffe picks up a mobile quarterback. The fruits of the Blue Devils’ labor have shown up this month, as Duke has picked up three overall commitments since June 17. Prior to that, Duke had just one.
