It's a sad day for Eagles fans. Before 2000, the Philadelphia Eagles weren't a scary team. They didn't pose much of a threat and were merely a stepping stone in an opponents' schedule. It only took Jim Johnson a few years to change that.

Starting in 2001, the Eagles went on a four-year NFC Championship streak with the final year ending in a loss in Super Bowl XXXIX to the New England Patriots. The Eagles never had a stellar offense during those years and the team's performance could be solely attributed to Jim Johnson and his offense.

He was a crazy man to say the least. It was never an inappropriate time for a suicide blitz. He would send everyone, no one, and then everyone again on the same set of downs and tie the opposition in a knot. No one knew what to expect when Johnson was calling the shots, and just when they thought they did he threw something else at you.

The Eagles replaced Johnson with Sean McDermott, a protege of Johnson's who vows to keep the same ferocious defense as Jim preached. But it'll never be the same without him.

Jim Johnson, you will be missed.
