Any NFL junkie knows how the offseason goes: Ages before the first ball is snapped and roster trimming is performed, the quest for the Lombardi Trophy starts with free-agent signings, the draft, perhaps a few more signings and finally retirements.

The Philadelphia Eagles lost a good one this week, as defensive tackle Paul Grasmanis decided to hang up the ole' pads and call it a day. The former Notre Dame standout played pro ball for ten years with the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos before joining the Eagles, although he had seen little playing time in Philly in the past few years.

Ultimately, the stats show that Grasmanis enjoyed the peak of his career in the City of Brotherly Love in 2000-2002. The last of these three was particularly a banner year, with thirty-one solo tackles, eleven unassisted, and four sacks recorded while playing in every game. Overall, Grasmanis achieved nearly 200 tackles, one dozen sacks and forced three fumbles.

At DT, the Eagles roster currently includes names such as Sam Rayburn, Darwin Walker and first-round pick Brodrick Bunkley.

In the inbox, meanwhile, landed rookie free-agent QB Matt Nordgren. Nordgren had been with the squad at the first mini-camp and passed his trial-basis stay. The Dallas native will be attending the second mini-camp.

Nordgren represents an under-the-radar signing, as the quarterback did little with the Texas Longhorns other than serve as Vince Young's backup and placekick holder. Ten-year veteran Koy Detmer has been holding this space on the special teams depth chart.
