Yes, it's true Philadelphia Eagle fans: The Matt Nordgren Era is over. Less than three weeks after signing the undrafted mostly kick-holding quarterback, Nordgren is out of contention for QB or special teams work.

Though nothing changes in the Philly driver's seat, backup roles currently held by Jeff Garcia and Koy Detmer may be contested in camp, and practice squad QBs are needed as well.

Nordgren had always been considered a long shot, an under-the-radar signing from the University of Texas Longhorns who did little more than serve as Vince Young's backup and placekick holder. He impressed early and often enough to stay with the Eagle through the first mini-camp and passed his trial-basis stay to play through the second.

The depth chart now boasts former University of Hawaii Rainbows' QB Timmy Chang. Believe it or not, Chang is the mostly unknown answer to a most key trivia question: "Who is the most prolific quarterback (with 17,072 in four years) in the entire history of the NCAA?" Due to his size, however, Chang has spent exactly 113 days in the NFL in two seasons and has yet to see the field during the regular season. Chang's last "stint" was with the Detroit Lions in 2005, where he was listed on the roster August 25-30. Chang spent the spring playing for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe, where he went 50 for 89 for 659 yards, four TDs and an 80.7 QB rating.

In place of the waived Nordgren on the roster is another NFL European, cornerback Joselio Hanson. As an unallocated player, 24-year-old Hanson totaled fifteen tackles, defended seven passes and returned seven kicks in the Frankfurt Galaxy's ten games, apparently impressing Eagle brass enough to get a spot at preseason workouts. The former Texas Tech Red Raider originally signed as a rookie free agent with San Francisco in 2003. In 2004, Hanson saw action in thirteen regular-season games, but was released before the 2005 season kicked off.
