The Philadelphia Eagles have reached an agreement with fifth-round draft pick and former Olympian, Jeremy Bloom, on a four-year contract.

The 5-9, 172 pound speedster has not played football since 2003. In the fall of 2004, the NCAA ruled that because Bloom had accepted endorsements to keep up on his skiing career, he couldn't be eligible for the football season.

The Eagles' coaching staff is hoping that Bloom will be able to contribute on special teams and provide depth at the receiver position. During his shortened career at the University of Colorado, the 24-year-old caught 24 passes for 458 yards and two touchdowns and had 16 carries for 93 yards. On special teams, Bloom had 47 punt returns for a 13.5 average with two touchdowns, and returned 25 kickoffs for a 25.1 average and a touchdown.

Bloom averaged 16.2 yards every time he had the ball and scored five times on plays of more than 75 yards for the Buffaloes. Philadelphia, which averaged 8.5 yards on punt returns last season, are banking on those type of dynamic, game-changing plays.
