It's another first for RealFootball365.com, but not of the sort good for the pride. Please allow this writer and this Web site to be the first to apologize to Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles.

I'm sorry, Philadelphia Eagles.

Yes, the writer specifically and this site in general were aboard the anti-Eagle bandwagon last week, just another voice in the din stridently led by Philly fans calling for the introduction of Kevin Kolb. Heck, the weekly predictions column posted here took the Detroit Lions to win in Philadelphia - think about that: The Lions were given a serious chance.

And it wasn't just me. Or us. Nationwide, fans panicked, analysis was heavy and everyone from Andy Reid to J.R. Reed was called into question under charges of impersonating an NFL employee. (Everyone except Brian Westbrook, that is.)

Last week, NFL followers were also "treated" to McNabb's much-publicized comments and the tedious comparisons to Rex Grossman's recent coverage. At the time (and just a few days ago seems like a long time), McNabb's words came across like the whine of a man about to be replaced by a rookie upstart and, perhaps if media weren't criticizing him so darn much, he might continue to fool folks for years into thinking he's still in his prime.

Then, 21 for 26, 381 yards, four TDs and damn, is this fantasy team owner pleased as punch he faced McNabb in Week 2. Speaking of fantasy ball, why don't we just all officially mark Reggie Brown a bust for 2007 while hailing the rise of Kevin Curtis, who scored more TDs than Randy Moss and Terrell Owens combined, and totaled nearly as many receiving yards (an incredible 221 versus 260 for the big boys put together)?

At halftime, Curtis and the unbelievable Westbrook had twice as many touchdowns as the Lions.

Fifty-six points: a true "shock and awe"-level display of an offensive arsenal. Sorry...

And the 'D' got some, too. Though Jon Kitna's line (29 of 46 for an eye-popping 446 yards, plus two TDs and one interception) implies there may still be work to do with Lito Sheppard and Brian Dawkins not playing, the Philly defense shut the high-flying Lions out of the end zone in the second half.

Even the special teams played impeccably, with Correll Buckhalter bringing this Eagles unit a long way from the Week 1 debacle and David Akers going a preposterous 8 of 8 in extra point attempts.

I'm sorry, Philadelphia Eagles, for doubting your abilities as at least a low-end playoff team. As certainly as those home-crowd fans are, to be sure.

(Incidentally, the game ball goes to whoever made the decision necessary to make this possible. Anyone who figured that paying homage to a team that went 3-6-1 and was outscored 116-9 in its first three games would be the key to ailing the current-day squad is a genius well beyond Bill Belichick. Keep the bizarre-looking things until you lose in 'em, Eagles.)

Of course, it was the Detroit Lions ... sorry, sorry. I'm sorry.
