Last Thursday, former Miami Hurricanes defensive end Jerome McDougle was robbed and shot in the stomach by four assailants in Southwest Miami. He was visiting his family before starting training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles. Since the incident, McDougle has recovered well, and was released from Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center on Aug. 2nd, he is expected to make a full recovery and be back in training within six weeks. As for the perpetrators of the armed robbery, three of the four were arrested earlier in the week on Tuesday. One was 19 years old, one was 17, and the youngest was 15 years old. The fourth suspect's arrest came yesterday. He is 17 years old and is currently in custody at the Miami-Dade Juvenile Justice Center. All four youngsters face charges of armed robbery and attempted felony murder. In Florida, all gun related criminal charges carry a grim 10-20 to life sentence.

Jerome McDougle, 26, was sitting in his silver Mercedes coupe when the robbers approached the car with their faces covered and demanded his money and valuables. After handing over his property, one of the assailants shot him in the stomach. McDougle opened the door to get out of his car, and another assailant fired two more shots, which police say missed McDougle and were lodged inside of the door. The robbers then fled on foot. McDougle was robbed for a $20,000 dollar watch, which has not been recovered yet.

McDougle was a first-round pick for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2003 draft, but has been repeatedly sidelined for the last two seasons with injuries. However, in the 19 games he played he has 18 tackles and two sacks.
