Atlanta Falcons rookie quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 158 yards in a 24-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, completing barely more than half his passes (21 of 41). In his first four pro games, the third overall pick from Boston College hasn't gone for 200-plus yards in any.

Commentary: Ryan is intelligent, a solid game manager, and far better than past rookie QBs who were thrown to the wolves (David Carr and Joey Harrington, among others). One thing he has not been yet, though, is a numbers guy.

Part of Ryan's problem could be a scaled-down playbook for a quarterback who may not be ready to go. There's no excuse for averaging 5.5 yards a pass, though, which Ryan did in Carolina.

Worse, don't expect Ryan to exceed the 200-yard mark in the next couple games, meetings with the Packers and Buccaneers.

Fan Pulse: Falcons fans, judging by their comments, clearly know their 2-2 team is rebuilding: http://life.atlantafalcons.com/index.php?showtopic=3805034.

Fantasy Football Commentary: With Ryan at the helm, go-to receiver Roddy White is averaging 21.1 yards per catch and nearly topped the 100-yard receiving mark in Week 4, grabbing seven balls for 90 yards.

Injury Watch: RB Michael Turner played with a shoulder injury in Week 4 and was limited to 56 yards.
