The 4-2 Atlanta Falcons, once the laughingstock of the NFL, are very much in the playoff hunt in a division (the NFC South) that could put three teams in the postseason this year.

There are currently only a few teams in the NFC that stand out as legitimate playoff contenders right now. The New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals all seem to be headed in that direction. That leaves one spot open for every other NFC team to fight for. So let's talk about who is in that discussion. The Dallas Cowboys are just 4-3 and in a tailspin. The Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, both out of the North, can't seem to play consistently. New Orleans, just 3-4, suffered a blow with Reggie Bush's torn meniscus. All that uncertainty leaves the Falcons, provided they can escape with a 9-7 or 10-6 record, with a fighter's chance to get in.

Even if the Falcons don't make it to the playoffs this season, they have to be thrilled with the way things have gone so far. They are arguably the feel-good story of the NFL season so far.

Fan Pulse: Falcons fans think the playoffs are a definite possibility: http://life.atlantafalcons.com/index.php?showtopic=3808731.

Fantasy Football Commentary: Don't expect tons from running back Michael Turner this week against the Philadelphia Eagles' seventh-ranked defense. Still, he's a must-start given his overall numbers.

Injury Watch:
The bye week did the Falcons well; they have no key injuries.
