The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly will use the franchise tag to retain the rights to Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen. The team has until Thursday to tender Allen the one-year, $8.9 million offer that represents the average of the top five salary-cap numbers of defensive ends in 2007. Any team that wants to sign Allen would have to give the Chiefs two first-round picks.

Commentary: This move was expected and is a no-brainer. Allen was one of the top five defenders in the NFL last season -- he led the league with 15.5 sacks -- and is easily the best player on Kansas City's defense.

Fantasy Football Impact: Allen obviously is one of the top ends in any IDP leagues.
