The Carolina Panthers cut running back DeShaun Foster, saving the team $4.75 million under the salary cap and making way for former first-round pick DeAngelo Williams to take over as the starting running back.

Commentary: Foster actually played every game last season -- the first time he had done that in his five-year career. But he is still injury prone and fumbles too much. He's not designed to be a starter. Meanwhile, this is great news for Williams, who has languished in part-time action behind Foster ever since the Panthers drafted Williams in the first round in 2006.

Fantasy Football Impact: It's always nice to see a two-back system pared down to one, and Williams should be a good one. Sharing time with Foster last season, Williams ran for 717 yards on 144 carries and scored four times. His average yards per carry of 5.0 was much better than Foster's 3.5, yet Foster was given the ball 247 times (876 yards). With Foster's release, Williams should jump up fantasy draft charts as an every-down starter.
