Brett Favre fantasy owners, you'll be rewarded for your patience. That’s not to say the newest Jet is going to light it up this year in the AFC East with New England wielding its usual dominance; nevertheless, New York looks good on the offensive front, and it has a couple of receivers who can get open downfield in Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery.

Is he as valuable as the Jets’ quarterback as he would have been starting for the Packers? Probably not, but Favre becomes a great second option for fantasy owners in 2008.

Now the quarterback carousel will truly begin to turn. After adding Favre, the Jets released Chad Pennington on Thursday. He could end up in a number of places, all of which would be better than the situation he had in New York.

Pennington’s lack of arm strength made it difficult to count on him in the AFC East, where weather is a factor all season -- especially during home games at windy Giants Stadium.

A likely destination for Pennington is Minnesota, which plays a guaranteed nine games a year indoors (eight at home, one in Detroit) and only has to brave the weather of Green Bay and Chicago a combined two times per season. If that truly becomes the destination for Pennington, fantasy owners would be able to see him as a viable backup.

And let’s not forget the big winner in all of this, the Packers' Aaron Rodgers. When Favre got knocked out of a November game last year in Dallas, the nation got a sneak preview of the Rogers era, and he didn't disappoint. Against the Cowboys' fierce defense, the 2005 first-round pick completed 18-of-26 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown in a 37-27 loss. The game plan for Rodgers back then consisted of short out routes and crossing patterns that built up a lot of yardage and moved the offense downfield. If Green Bay's game plan is the same in 2008 -- which it should be -- consider Rodgers a good second option for your fantasy team.

Earlier this week, Favre, Pennington and Rodgers were more or less untouchable for fantasy owners because of the unknowns that came with them; now, though, all are viable options later in drafts.
