Fantasy football success is often tied to timely waiver-wire acquisitions. This is especially true for owners who don’t have a top-tier defense on their roster.

When analyzing your options at 'DST', it’s often as important to scout the opposing offense as it is to break down the defense and special teams in question. Week 6 presented just such an opportunity. The New Orleans Saints, coming off a demoralizing Monday night loss to Minnesota, were pitted against a woeful Oakland Raiders offense that is reeling from injuries, coaching changes and general ineptitude.

Sure enough, the Saints spanked the Raiders on Sunday, 34-3, and allowed just 226 yards, forced two turnovers (an interception and fumble) and accrued two sacks. That’s nearly 20 points in most fantasy leagues.

The next time you’re in the market for a free-agent 'DST', then, remember to scout the opposing offense just as much as you look at the defense and special teams you're thinking about adding.
