After a red-hot start, San Francisco 49ers starting running back Frank Gore has cooled off considerably, posting two subpar weeks in a row. His fumbling problems have been highly publicized (four fumbles lost in four games), but it's been his lack of production both on the ground and in the passing game that have been most detrimental.

Gore has failed to reach 100 total yards in his last two contests, against the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, and has not hit paydirt since Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams.

Fortunately, 49ers head coach Mike Nolan has given Gore a vote of confidence, insisting that he is and will be the 49ers' featured back, so don't go casting him off quite yet. If he can correct his fumbling problem and if his offensive line can regain the health and cohesion it displayed in the first few weeks of the season, the former Miami Hurricanes standout should get back on track.

Gore is still a solid No. 2 running back for fantasy football owners.
