At first glance, a novice would assume that Edgerrin James is having a horrid season in terms of fantasy football production, but that's not really the case. Edge has had two good weeks (Week 1, Week 3), in which he went for 14 and 15 points, respectively. The problem is that in his other two outings, he fell short of the 10-point plateau. That's no good for a first-round running back.

So the question at hand is whether to start James in Week 5? He's going up against a middle-of-the-road Chiefs defense that held Frank Gore to well under 100 total yards and no touchdowns in Week 4. If you've got a solid No. 3 running back that's going up against a more lax defense, go ahead and let Edgerrin ride the pine this week.

That is, unless you believe that Edge will continue his pattern of up and down weeks. If you do, then go ahead and start him because, according to that logic, he's due for another 15-point week.
