Last year, the Houston Texans passed over Reggie Bush in the draft, and the rest was history.

Domanick Williams got hurt, the mediocre trio of Ron Dayne, Samkon Gado and Wali Lundy never got much going at running back, and the lack of a ground game figured in to the Texans' eventual 6-10 finish.

Looking to atone for the oversight, the Texans threw $12 million in the direction of free agent Ahman Green, a nine-year veteran with a respectable resume heading into the Lone Star State. Green is marked by blazing speed, sharp receiving skills and a propensity for fumbling.

He was a stalwart in Brett Favre's backfield in his seven seasons in Green Bay, highlighted by a career year in 2003 in which he amassed 2,250 total rushing and receiving yards while making 20 trips to the endzone. He recovered from a torn right quadriceps that cost him most of 2005 to amass a respectable season in 2006, racking up 1,432 total yards while only fumbling twice in 16 games.

Early reports have an invigorated Green feeling better than he has in years, while head coach Gary Kubiak says the back should receive around 25 carries a game.

Fantasy analysis: Green's first-round days are long gone, but he can still contribute his fair share as a second running back in fantasy leagues this year. The change in jerseys won't affect him too much -- though he will miss the Packers' beefy line, he didn't get much of a chance to run behind them anyway when the team was behind and Favre took to the air.

The Texans' surrounding cast has some playmakers; the emerging duo of Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson should stretch the field enough to create opportunities for Green. Still, the questionable team and past injury issues are causes for concern. Expect a season of around 1,000 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, and consider him a third-round pick in your draft. Try and upgrade via trade if he gets off to a hot start, as Green's advancing age and the Texans' fading hopes may see his value diminish as the season progresses.
