Fantasy football makes fools of all us from time to time. I guess Week 3 was my turn. I chose to bench an underperforming Donovan McNabb and failed to pull the trigger on a move to start Ronnie Brown against a New York Jets defense known for rolling out the red carpet for the ex-Auburn standout.

As a result, I lost out on 77 fantasy points and a couple of hours of sleep on Sunday night. On that note, then, let's talk about some of this week's most notable studs and duds.

Studs

1. If you were insightful enough to start Eagles wideout Kevin Curtis in Week 3, you just might be the wisest fantasy player ever. Curtis' 221-yard, three-touchdown effort mad him a very attractive waiver-wire option in many leagues.

2. Ronnie Brown and Brian Westbrook both chose Week 3 to bust loose. Brown racked up 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns to go along with 99 receiving yards and another score. Westbrook accrued 110 yards and two TDs on the ground and 111 yards and a touchdown as a pass catcher.

3. I knew there was a reason I drafted Donovan McNabb. He's always good for a few big weeks now and again; his 381 yards and four passing touchdowns last weekend were no exception. He did fumble once -- but honestly, who cares?

4. Tight end Jason Witten is cashing in on Tony Romo's rise to elite status. In Week 3 he notched 90 receiving yards and a touchdown. Expect to see a lot of similar stat lines all season long from Witten.

5. Can you guess what 'DST' forced five turnovers, bagged one sack and allowed just 251 yards of offense? That's right -- the mighty Tennessee Titans. Again, if you had the foresight to start that defense, you are a certified fantasy genius.

Duds

1. Marc Bulger was supposed to be a sure thing at quarterback. Instead, he has become a banged-up shell of his former self. This past week, he threw for just 116 yards and added three costly interceptions for good measure. It's hard to win when your quarterback notches a negative score.

2. There's no need to break down the numbers when it comes to RB duds. Four of the consensus top picks are all posting horrid numbers. LaDainian Tomlinson and Steven Jackson should bounce back eventually. I'm not so sure about Larry Johnson or Maurice Jones-Drew.

3. I guess cornerback Nate Clements is as good as advertised. Despite the fact that his team, the San Francisco 49ers, was shellacked by Pittsburgh on Sunday, wide receiver Hines Ward was virtually shut out by Clements, catching one pass for 2 yards.

4. The Chargers are supposed to have a dominant defense, right? Then why did they give up 31 points and 405 yards to the barely above-average Packers offense? Maybe they're just not as good as advertised.
