After weeks of hearing fans and media call for Kellen Clemens to replace Chad Pennington, New York Jets coach Eric Mangini finally did it Monday. Clemens will start against Washington in Week 9, Mangini announced.

Commentary: In limited relief duty this season, the second-year Clemens has not been overly impressive. He did nearly rally the Jets to beat Baltimore, but he has just one touchdown pass and four interceptions in 59 attempts over three games. But if the Jets think he is the future, they might as well play him the rest of the season so he gets experience for 2008. Pennington's arm strength is obviously lacking after multiple shoulder surgeries, and Clemens might offer a better deep ball.

Fantasy Football Impact: In his one start, against Baltimore, Clemens threw for 260 yards and one touchdown, but completed just 51 percent with two picks. Assuming this is not just a one-game deal, Clemens should get better than that. If this is a one-game deal, it makes no sense.
