How good is Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu? If he doesn't play against the New England Patriots on Sunday -- a definite possibility, considering a sprained knee kept the big-haired Pro Bowler out of practice on Thursday -- it will take two men to replace him.

As of Thursday night, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin hadn't made a decision on his star defender.

Commentary: If Polamalu can't go, Tyrone Carter would continue to fill his position. Carter has started the last two games. But there's more to Polamalu than just pass defense -- he's also a frequent blitzer in the Steelers' third-down package. That role may be filled by rookie linebacker Lawrence Timmons.

All of this might not be so much of a problem, except that the Steelers are playing New England.

Fantasy Football Impact: Less than you'd think. Because of Polamalu's rep, teams haven't been throwing at him much this season, so he hasn't registered an interception. Still, his presence makes the overall Steelers' defense better.
