Chuck Bresnahan, who oversaw the Cincinnati Bengals' bungling defense for the past three years, was fired by coach Marvin Lewis on Wednesday. Ricky Hunley, the team's linebackers coach for the past five years, also was let go.

Commentary: Lewis needed to do something to fix a defense that ranked 27th this season -- its highest ranking over the past three years (30th in 2006 and 28th in 2005). Since Lewis was hired in 2003, the Bengals' defense has not ranked any higher than 19th. If Lewis, a recognized defensive wizard, can't get the defense fixed in 2008, he should find himself on the hot seat.

Fantasy Football Impact: The Bengals have been a boon for any offense that has played them over the past few years. We'll see if Lewis can finally change that.
