Earlier this week, the Green Bay Packers were hoping that starting left guard Junius Coston would be able to recover from a recent calf strain in time for the second week of the playoffs. Now, it appears the third-year man from North Carolina A&T will have a lot longer to get well.

Green Bay announced Thursday that it was placing Coston, a 6-foot-3, 313-pounder, on injured reserve because of the injury, suffered last week in a victory over Detroit.

Commentary: The NFC North champion Packers, who have a bye this weekend, are also closely monitoring a quadriceps injury suffered by right guard Jason Spitz in the same game. If Spitz can play a week from Sunday, Darryn Colledge will probably fill Coston's spot; if not, Colledge may move to right guard with rookie Allen Barbre or Tony Moll lining up at the other guard position.
