Bill Belichick received 29 of 50 votes by media members who named him the AP Coach of the Year for leading the New England Patriots to the first 16-0 regular-season record in the history of the NFL. Mike McCarthy earned 15 votes for coaching the Green Bay Packers to a 13-3 record. The other coaches who got votes were Dallas' Wade Phillips (two), Jacksonville's Jack Del Rio (two), Indianapolis' Tony Dungy (one) and Tampa Bay's Jon Gruden (one).

Commentary: The great irony here is that Belichick won the award even though the NFL punished him early in the season for cheating (videotaping opponents' defensive signals during games). As overblown as that deal was, Belichick turned it into a rallying cry for his team and seemed intent on going undefeated just to prove to everyone that he didn't need to cheat to win. This is Belichick's second Coach of the Year award; he also won in 2003, when the Patriots went 14-2.

Fantasy Football Impact: None.
