Browns promote secondary coach to D-coordinator

The Cleveland Browns quickly replaced fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, promoting secondary coach Mel Tucker and signing him to a two-year extension through 2010. Tucker, 36, has been Cleveland's secondary coach for the past three years.

Commentary: The Browns ranked 30th in the league in yards allowed, so they have almost nowhere to go but up. It seems odd that they would promote a guy off the same staff that was responsible for such a poor performance, but they obviously figure some new players will help.
