Running back Shaun Alexander was one of six Seahawks to undergo surgery this week to repair injuries suffered this season, while four others have operations upcoming. Alexander had his broken left wrist repaired, while offensive lineman Ray Willis (arthroscopic knee surgery), running back Josh Scobey (broken left fibula), offensive lineman Floyd Womack (right biceps), defensive lineman Baraka Atkins (left wrist) and linebacker Will Herring (arthroscopic knee surgery) also underwent procedures.

Defensive end Patrick Kerney and left tackle Walter Jones are scheduled to have shoulder surgeries next week, receiver Deion Branch will have his torn ACL repaired and center Chris Spencer will have surgeries on his shoulder and thumb.

Commentary: Five of these guys were starters, and their injuries might explain in part the struggles the team had in the second half of the season particularly. This is the second straight offseason that Jones will have had shoulder surgery. His surgically repaired shoulder bothered him all season, although he still made his seventh straight Pro Bowl and was named All-Pro again. But at age 34 he might start to slow down. Time to groom his replacement.

Fantasy Football Impact: The ACL injury will keep Branch out possibly for the first 10 games next season -- if the Seahawks decide to put him on the PUP before the season. Alexander has had back-to-back bad years thanks to injuries and a bad line, and his fantasy value is almost non-existent. He should be a great value pick in 2008 fantasy drafts.
