Jason Garrett eschewed coaching opportunities in Baltimore and Atlanta to remain in Dallas after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered the offensive coordinator a contract worth $3 million per season and the title of assistant head coach. The Cowboys also re-signed offensive line coach Hudson Houck to a three-year contract.

Commentary: Garrett is now making about the same as coach Wade Phillips, and it is clear they are essentially co-coaches -- Wade for defense, Garrett for offense. Speculation has it that Phillips is now a lame duck who will be replaced by Garrett next year. Garrett denied that, saying "no" when asked if he had been promised Phillips' job.

Jones issued a statement that said: "We're thrilled that Jason will be with the team in 2008 and moving forward. We believe that what we accomplished in 2007 is just the beginning of many productive years ahead. His vision and direction on the offensive side of the ball will only help us improve and get to where we want to be."

And Phillips himself expressed satisfaction that his offense would remain the same. But there is no way Garrett would turn down two sure-thing coaching gigs and take $3 million to stay in Dallas if he had not been given assurances that the top coaching spot there would eventually be his.

Fantasy Football Impact: It means the Dallas offense will remain the same, which is good news for Tony Romo, Jason Witten and Terrell Owens.
