San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers said he had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last week so he could play in the AFC title game, and he'll need surgery on the torn ACL in the same knee. Meanwhile, tailback LaDainian Tomlinson said he won't need surgery on the sprained left knee he injured against Indianapolis, which sidelined him in that game and in the loss to New England.

Commentary: San Diego defensive lineman Luis Castillo said Rivers' courage to play on such a badly injured knee was the gutsiest performance he had ever seen. It was gutsy, but it also might have been a little foolhardy; Rivers played one of his worst games of the season.

Fantasy Football Impact: Rivers now will have to do what Donovan McNabb and Carson Palmer have done the past two years, return from a torn ACL in time for the next season. Rivers hasn't been a great fantasy option anyway, and this won't help him get on the same page as Chris Chambers and his other receivers for next season. Tomlinson should be fine by camp.
