San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers underwent surgery to fix the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Wednesday and is expected to need six months of rehabilitation. Rivers was injured against the Indianapolis Colts in the divisional playoffs but had arthroscopic surgery on the knee so he could play Sunday in the AFC title game.

Commentary: Rivers should be back in time for camp, but expect the Chargers to go easy on him until the season starts. Carson Palmer rebounded well in a similar situation a couple of years ago, so Rivers should be fine.

Fantasy Football Impact: The one negative in this is that receiver Chris Chambers won't get much time to get in sync with Rivers this offseason. Chambers came to San Diego in a midseason trade and caught 35 passes for 555 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games. He should do much better with a full season in the offense, but it might take a while for him to get going.
