An arbitrator has ruled that wide receiver Terrell Owens owes the Philadelphia Eagles $769,120, which represents the unpaid portion of his signing bonus after he defaulted on his contract in 2005. Owens had filed a grievance seeking to reclaim the $1.725 million the Eagles had recovered from the $2.3 million signing bonus they paid Owens when he signed a seven-year, $49 million contract in 2004.

In 2005, Owens was made persona non grata in Philly after a series of incidents the Eagles deemed as conduct detrimental to the team, including publicly criticizing quarterback Donovan McNabb and management. Owens was suspended four games without pay, and the Eagles also did not pay him for the final five contests. That amounted to $955,880. Now Owens will have to pay the remaining $769,120.

Commentary: Owens should be able to cover the bill; he's set to receive a $3 million roster bonus in March from his current team, the Dallas Cowboys. As immaturely as he acted in Philly, he absolutely should have to pay back the rest of the bonus. So this result is what it should have been.

Fantasy Football Impact: Owens has been a pretty stable character in two seasons with the Cowboys, and his fantasy numbers have remained among the best in the league. That should continue. And expect him to put in extra effort against the Eagles. In the first game this season, in Philadelphia, he set season highs with 10 receptions for 174 yards (one touchdown).
