Florida State star receiver Preston Parker will serve a two-game suspension among other penalties after pleading guilty to misdemeanor concealed weapons and marijuana charges levied in April. The two games last year's MVP will miss are against Western Carolina and Chattanooga.

"Preston made a very serious mistake and there are consequences when one of our boys gets in trouble," head coach Bobby Bowden said.

In addition to the suspension, Parker must also complete 50 hours of community service, a separate 50 hours through the school, mentor at-risk Leon County students, undergo biweekly drug testing, live in a supervised dorm, attend a mandatory study hall and meet weekly with the compliance officer.

In a prepared statement, Parker said, "I don’t know what the future holds, but I promise whatever it is I will make my teammates coaches, fans, family and above all my son proud of me on and off the field. I am truly sorry and I apologize to everyone."

COMMENTARY: Perhaps Parker has learned a lesson or two from his mistakes, but it's of course unknown whether he'll be able to stay out of trouble going forward.
