Giants DE Michael Strahan will announce his retirement from the NFL at a press conference set for 11:30 a.m. ET Tuesday.

Strahan, the NFL's single-season regular-season record holder for sacks -- 22.5 in 2001 -- walks away from a $4 million contract, not to mention a chance to repeat as a Super Bowl champion. Strahan was the league's active leader in career sacks with 141.5. DE Simeon Rice takes that spot with 122. Fellow end Jason Taylor is second with 117.

Commentary: Strahan's numbers are Hall of Fame-worthy, and his personality off the field ensures he won't be out of work. A player whom Giants legendary LB Lawrence Taylor labeled a future star during his rookie season, Strahan was a pure sack artist on the field and a very likable endorser and spokesperson off it. His announcement will end months of speculation about his future.

Fantasy Impact: Strahan had nine sacks in 2007, but DE Osi Umenyiora has 41.5 in 72 games so far in his career, and the Giants signed DE Justin Tuck to a contract extension during the playoffs last year. They still have plenty of rushers, but Strahan's terrific all-around game as a QB rusher and run stopper will be missed.
