Fan Pulse: Giants fans wondering when Strahan’s jersey will be retired

The Giants' official team forum mentions the retirement of team sack king Michael Strahan, but fans asks a more pertinent question.

When will the Giants retire Strahan's No. 92 jersey?

Strahan had 141.5 sacks in a Giants uniform, more than first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee Lawrence Taylor's 132. The Giants retired Taylor's No. 56 jersey in 1994 (Strahan's second year in the league), not even a full season after he retired. Strahan will announce his retirement from the NFL at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in a press conference.

One poster doesn't see retiring his jersey as a very difficult decision for the team to make.

"Personally, I feel that Strahan is one of the greatest players our franchise has ever seen, and easily our best player at any possition since LT. His number is the only one I've said instantly should be retired. He was a lifelong Giant, holds an extremely prestigious record, was a big part of our SB run, and is a gurantee for the HOF."

Strahan, a second-round pick out of Texas Southern in 1993, is an engaging personality fit for the big stage in New York. He flashes an easy smile, and even if his jersey gets retired in the Meadowlands, his presence may be what his fans will remember the most. Perhaps that's why this poster wants to create the idea that Strahan is going to come back and play.

"What is we retire 92 and Strahan suddenly decides to come back? Does he have to wear a different number?"
