The defending Super Bowl champs lost defensive end Osi Umenyiora for the 2008 season after he tore the lateral meniscus in his left knee in a 10-7 preseason loss to the Jets over the weekend. Umenyiora will have season-ending surgery Tuesday.

Commentary: The first thought is that the Giants will make a run at Umenyiora's former teammate Michael Strahan to help fill the void. Strahan retired after the Giants won Super Bowl XLIII, and the pair combined for 22 sacks last season. Dave Tollefson replaced Umenyiora in the game.

Fantasy Impact: Umenyiora has 41.5 career sacks, and while there was some speculation he may have a tougher time without Strahan on the opposite side, the loss of both of them will likely drop the amount of sacks the Giants are used to getting. Tollefson is hardly in the category of Umenyiora as a pass rusher.
