The New York Giants have been awarded the rights to quarterback Tim Hasselbeck after clearing waivers. The young quarterback is competing against Jesse Palmer and Jared Lorenzen for a backup spot with the team.

Hasselbeck was released last week after his old team - the Washington Redskins - took Auburn's quarterback Jason Campbell with a first round pick in this year's NFL draft.

The 6'1", 211 lbs. Hasselbeck didn't participate in any games during 2004. The Boston College product began his career with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2002 and was a Redskin from 2003 to 2004. Matt Hasselbeck's younger brother has a 63.6 passer rating amassed during 7 games in 2003.
