The Jacksonville Jaguars will host their season opener at home for the first time since 2002, against the Seattle Seahawks. Coach Jack Del Rio has chosen to use his team's home field advantage this week, requiring the Seahawks to play in their dark colors in the midst of the mid-day heat. He hopes that this will give his team some sort of advantage over the Seahawks.

With one of the NFL's most dominant defenses virtually intact, and a healthy Byron Leftwich ready to throw, Jacksonville Jaguars fans feel their team will be the victors, no matter what colors their opponents wear. Although Seattle has signed four new defensive players for this 2005 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars are not intimidated. They are confident with most of their defensive veterans, who ranked 11th in the NFL in total defense last year, and feel equally confident in their offense, which they are determined will be stronger this year.

Seattle will travel for their season opener, for the fifth time in their last six seasons. Perhaps they will be in their dark colors, but they do not seem to be intimidated by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Many Seattle Seahawks fans think that RB Shaun Alexander will pose the biggest threat to the Jaguars in this season opener, and that he will single-handedly lead his team to a victory over them.

Both teams seem to be playing well, so it's difficult for me to say who I think will win this game. Both teams have a good quarterback, good running backs, and both seem to have a sound defense. My intuition tells me it is going to boil down the receivers and how well they can catch the ball. Rookie WR Matt Jones, at 6 foot 6 inches, has exhibited the potential to make some big plays for the Jaguars and should not be counted out. The Seattle Seahawks would be wise to keep him covered closely when he's on the field. He could be a difference maker.
