Jacksonville police are reporting that Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier was critically wounded after being shot multiple times early Tuesday morning.

Collier and former Jaguars defensive end Kenneth Pettway (who was released Aug. 30) were in a Cadillac Escalade outside an apartment building in the western part of Jacksonville when an assailant opened fire into the car.

Collier and Pettway were waiting outside the apartment as two women, who were described as wearing "nightclub dresses" in a report by The Associated Press, were dropping off their car, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's office.

Commentary: Gun violence continues to plague the NFL. Redskins free safety Sean Taylor and Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams were shot and killed last year. While strong details haven't been released about Collier's situation, there's little doubt the event will be scrutinized by fans and NFL personnel alike.

Fan Pulse: Jaguars fans have been posting relentlessly on the Jaguars.com Message Board since news of the incident broke early Tuesday morning.
