After a hard-fought game against the New York Jets, the Jacksonville Jaguars scored in dramatic fashion to clinch the game in overtime. Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich observed that the Jets defense was jumping routes on third down attempts, so he sent his wide receiver Jimmy Smith long and completed a 36 yard pass for the winning score. Jimmy Smith was ruled down at the one yard line, but after a review, it was ruled a touchdown.

Byron Leftwich, despite a recent groin injury, finished the game having completed 16 or his 23 pass attempts resulting in one touchdown and one interception. Running back Fred Taylor carried the ball 37 times, for 89 yards and a touchdown. The Jacksonville Jaguars needed this win, after suffering a tough loss the previous week against the Indianapolis Colts.

Jets quarterback Chad Pennington also played injured. He strained his right shoulder during the game, and backup quarterback Jay Fiedler took his place. Jay Fiedler was also hurt, and Chad Pennington was forced to come back in to play. Chad Pennington ended the game having connected 9 out of 19 passes for only 76 yards and two interceptions. Coach Herman Edwards will be forced to start third-string quarterback Brooks Bollinger next week at Baltimore. Jets running back Curtis Martin could not get into the groove either, finishing with only 67 yards on 18 carries. The Jets' offense was held to only 168 total yards.

As for the Jaguars' injuries, both offensive tackle Maurice Williams and right guard Chris Naeole have sprained knees as a result of Sunday's game. Head coach Jack Del Rio assures that neither injury is serious, and that both should be ready to play in next week's match-up against the Denver Broncos. Hopefully quarterback Byron Leftwich will be able to play effectively as well. This could be the deciding factor for a Jacksonville win.
