A few weeks back, I wrote a piece about offensive lineman Mike Williams and his attempt to revive his fledgling career in Jacksonville. The article spoke of the horrendous start to a career that was expected to be promising. After a tumultuous and lackluster four-year tenure in Buffalo, the overweight, underachieving, injury-prone behemoth was given a second chance by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Unfortunately for him, the only thing he packed with him is his morbidly obese frame.

The Bills grew tired of the laziness and lack of performance the former No. 4 overall pick brought to the table. So, one would think, that given this second and most likely last ditch chance to make it in the NFL, Williams would be motivated to shed some pounds and give it his all. A word of the wise to Mr. Williams, the pros are all about work-ethic and being in shape.

In any event, if Williams has problems dropping the pounds, there are other methods. If worst came to worst, the 360-pounder could have called 1-800-Jenny Craig. That may sound insulting, but it's frustrating when someone with star potential throws it away because he takes his talent for granted. When a player arrives in camp 20 pounds overweight, it creates problems. Couple that with the fact that he has been slow to pick up the blocking schemes, and we could be looking at the next former NFL player.

Because of his lack of heart and sub-par performance already, Williams' chances of making the Jags' roster are slim to none. Head coach Jack Del Rio has already stated that the former University of Texas star will face an uphill battle to even make the team.

Undoubtedly, Williams has put himself between a rock and a hard place. In a sense, it would be like an insurance salesman going up to bat against Mariano Rivera. The chances of getting on base are, essentially, as good as winning the lottery. Williams has removed any condition he had to succeed, and frankly, it's a shame.

Williams is quickly etching his name on a bust list that includes Ryan Leaf, Brian Bosworth, Tony Mandarich and Todd Marinovich. Not exactly the company you'd like your name associated with. Williams better pick up the pace, drop some weight, and start acting like he wants to succeed, or his career will be over in the blink of an eye.
