It wasn't long ago that the AFC East was New England and a bunch of other teams that the Patriots whipped on a regular basis. That has quickly changed, largely thanks to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's injury. But you won't hear the New York Jets crying about the loss. In fact, they have taken advantage of the situation and could legitimize their playoff chances with a win Thursday night against the Brady-less Pats. If they do so, it will likely come from exploiting Patriots QB Matt Cassel's inexperience. The Jets' defense has been causing quite a bit of havoc lately for opposing offenses and it has brought the 6-3 team an improbable three-game winning streak.

Commentary: New York's defense has forced eight turnovers and scored a touchdown in the past two games, much to the delight of head coach Eric Mangini. It has become paramount for the defense to commit turnovers in order to equalize Jets quarterback Brett Favre's careless mistakes. Mangini has done a decent job of that by switching his offensive strategy to a run-heavy scheme. This writer was critical of the strategy earlier in the year, but it's become clear that Favre isn't his old self; thus, more runs are necessary.

In last week's 47-3 win over St. Louis, running back Thomas Jones added 149 yards and three touchdowns. The formula now for New York to win is run the ball, force the opponent to pass against an aggressive defense and make Favre pretend he is Chad Pennington. In the last three weeks, it has worked.

Fan Pulse: Barack Obama's presidential victory isn't the only shift in power some people are seeing. Jets fans think it could happen in the AFC East starting this Thursday

Fantasy Football Commentary: I wish I could look into a crystal ball and tell you which Jets receiver would go off this week, but I don't even think Mangini has a clue. Will it be tight end Dustin Keller? Maybe. Wide receiver Laveranues Coles? Um, sure? What about wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery? Who knows? The point is, stay the heck away from these guys. Consistency wins fantasy titles. They don't have it.

Injury Watch: Good news for New York. The Jets starters look healthy heading into the showdown with New England.
