The New York Jets could not get a bye week at a better time.

After suffering a multitude of injuries throughout the year, and a dismal showing against Atlanta on Monday night, the Jets will have an opportunity to patch up before a rematch of last year's wacky wild card game against the San Diego Chargers. But before they can start thinking upset, they must fix problems on their offensive line.

Normally a strength, the offensive line has dropped down quite a bit this season, especially with the loss of their leader, six-time pro bowler, Kevin Mawae. Veteran Pete Kendall moved over from guard to center, and it resulted in a fumbled snap and many blown blocking assignments. With all the problems on the offensive line, one can only wonder how long 41-year-old quarterback Vinny Testaverde can last.

At 2-5, the season is slipping away for the New York Jets, and head coach Herman Edwards must use this extra week to at least glue together a respectable offensive line before it's too late.
