HEMPSTEAD, NY - The New York Jets signed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Fiedler.

Fiedler is entering his 10th season, having spent the past 5 years with the Dolphins. He broke into the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1994. The veteran QB has also played with the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars.

In 74 career games, the Long Island native has passed for 11,737 yards with 68 TDs and 66 INTs. Fiedler played only 8 games last season and was placed on injured reserve on 11/23 with a herniated cervical disc.

Fiedler has a career mark of 37-23 (61.7%) but is 1-2 in the postseason. He is expected to backup incumbent starter Chad Pennington. Pennington is recovering from offseason surgery on his right rotator cuff.

The Jets are not expected to bring back Quincy Carter, who started 3 games last season while Pennington was sidelined.
