The New York Jets Executive VP Terry Bradway announced on Monday the team has signed fifth-round selection (161st overall) safety Andre Maddox, out of NC State. The six-foot-one, 200-pound safety finished his finished his career with 341 tackles, eight sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 47 games. Maddox also earned first team All-ACC honors for the NC State Wolfpack as a junior.

Andre Maddox's production fell off during his senior campaign, partly because of hamstring problems. But, that did not prevent him from starting all his team's games and being named N.C. State's top defensive back by the coaching staff. Maddox also received the honor of being named a team captain. He becomes the third draft choice for the New York Jets to ink a deal, joining running back Cedrick Houston (6th round) and defensive tackle Sione Pouha (third round).

He is projected to compete for playing time at strong safety, where scouts say he is very active at attacking the line and is an extremely hard hitter. On the downside, he will need to become better at covering receivers. The Jets drafted him with the intention of using him mostly on special teams this season. He will report to training camp on July 28th.
