Unnamed sources are reporting that the New York Jets and Ty Law have agreed in principle to a multi-year deal, contingent on the former All-Pro passing a team physical.

Rumors began to heat up after Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum and Law's agent Carl Polston met over dinner on Thursday Night in New York City. The main sticking point after that meeting was how the New York Jets would have to rework several contracts or possibly release a veteran or two to fit the Ty Law contract under the league's salary cap.

Ty Law has worked out for several teams, including the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, and Jacksonville Jaguars in the past. He is coming off foot surgery in the off-season. Law has reportedly turned down a four-year, $24 million offer to resign with the New England Patriots, who were forced to release him in February due to salary cap restraints.

One of Law's best friends in the NFL is Jets running back Curtis Martin, and the two are said to have been talking extensively on the phone during the process. The two were teammates with the New England Patriots before Martin came to New York. Law is also said to be close to New York Jets coach Herman Edwards.

The way things currently stand, the four-time Pro Bowl pick will start at corner opposite 6th-year man David Barnett. Law's arrival means that veteran Ray Mickens will return to his original role at nickel back. He was penciled in at corner after the retirement of Donnie Abraham.
