The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Oh wait, that’s just Andre Woodson’s NFL Draft status.

Seriously, though. Does anyone remember what was being said about this guy back on October 13, 2007 when he led his Kentucky Wildcats to a victory over the then number one ranked LSU Tigers? Here’s a reminder.

How about top 10 draft pick. How about number one draft pick, for that matter? But a lot has changed since the 6-foot-5, 220 pound quarterback—that’s right, he’s tall too—led his team a to a 43-37 triple overtime victory over the Tigers. First, he didn’t win the Heisman Trophy as many speculated he might on that day. Second, it turns out that he probably won’t be drafted ahead of Brian Brohm, one of the two quarterbacks along with Woodson that many were tagging to be the top two quarterback prospects at the time.

In fact, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Andre Woodson may not even be drafted in the first round. What’s more, there’s even talk that he won’t be taken in the second.

Talk about a fall.

Fact is that Woodson was probably hyped a tad too much back then. There are certainly flaws, such as his technique, which are always brought out in a big way come draft time. Further, he’s not as athletic as he was made out to be during the 2007 season. But Woodson is still a guy that completed 327-of-518 passes for 3,709 yards in 2007. He did this in Kentucky, people, which historically isn’t known for putting out great football teams.

And he did this in the SEC.

So as Woodson’s stock continues to fall we’re left with the following question. What’s most important, what you do after the season or before?

Perhaps Andre Woodson isn’t as good a prospect as they were making him out to be during the 2007 college football season. But doesn’t his play during the year count for something?

Gotta love the draft, don’t you?
