The Detroit Lions promoted Johnny Holland to linebackers coach and hired Phil Snow as a defensive assistant.

Holland will replace Richard Smith, who left to be the Miami Dolphins' new defensive coordinator. Snow will replace Holland, who held the same assistant position during 2003 and 2004.

Prior to joining the Lions, Holland spent 3 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He started out as the assistant special teams/assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2000. Holland was then named their linebackers coach from 2001 to 2002. He also coached for the Green Bay Packers from 1995-99. Holland was a renowned linebacker for the Packers from 1987 to 1993.

Snow previously served as the defensive coordinator for the University of Washington Huskies.
