With hopes to upgrade their offensive line, the Detroit Lions signed free-agent guard Ross Verba to a one-year deal with additional option years.

Ross Verba, who didn't play in 2005 after 8 seasons with the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers, will be reunited with Lions' offensive line coach Larry Beightol, whom he played for in 1999 and 2000.

The Detroit Lions also signed DE Claude Harriott and released QB Shaun King, LB Sarth Benoit, DE Kevin Carberry and DT Marcus Jasmine.
