Lions cut Az-Zahir Hakim and Brock Marion

The Detroit Lions released wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim and safety Brock Marion have been released. The former Pro Bowlers became expendable after the team selected Southern California WR Mike Williams with the 10th overall pick and Stanford defensive back Stanley Wilson in the third round.

The 5'10", 185 lbs. Hakim finished the 2004 campaign with 31 receptions for 533 yards (17.2 average) and 3 TDs in 12 games. He played for the St. Louis Rams (1998-2001) prior to joining the Lions in 2002. The former San Diego State speedster has recorded 265 catches for 3,555 yards and 26 TDs in 92 games.

The 6'0", 200 lbs. Marion played all 16 games with the Lions during 2004. He had 88 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 5 pass breakups. The Nevada-Reno product has also played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1993 to 1997 and the Miami Dolphins from 1998 to 2003. He has registered 951 tackles, 31 INTs, 52 passes deflected, 7 forced fumbles, and 7 fumble recoveries in 182 games.

The Lions also signed free agent defensive tackle Brandon Kennedy to a 1 year contract.
