Mike Privott's dream football school was always the University of Michigan. That's why he decided to cast his lot with Louisville.

Confused? Actually, there's a two-word explanation -- Ron English. After producing a series of high-profile linebackers and linemen as the Wolverines' defensive coordinator, English left Ann Arbor for Louisville when the Rich Rodriguez regime arrived. And Privott, a 6-foot, 235-pound linebacker out of Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk, Va., noticed.

"I got real interested in them (Louisville) as soon as I found out Ron English was going there," said Privott, who gave a verbal commitment to U of L earlier this month.

The Cardinals had an atrocious defense last season, and Privott -- the school's first 2009 commitment -- is an example of a different emphasis in recruiting. He runs a 4.69 40, bench presses 325 pounds, and racked up 126 tackles and five sacks last season in the highly competitive Tidewater District. He was also being recruited by Maryland, Penn State, Boston College, West Virginia and North Carolina State, among others.
